Meet Jay

Jay Gresham is a native of northern Greenville County and is proud to serve our community in the courtroom as an Assistant Solicitor (state criminal prosecutor) with the 13th Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s Office, under the leadership of Solicitor Walt Wilkins.

A lifelong and devout Episcopalian, Jay attends Christ Church Episcopal in Greenville, where his family has long worshipped. He graduated with honors from The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, where he held the rank of cadet officer and managed the overall human affairs of his rifle company of over 100 men and women. After graduating from The Citadel with two degrees, Jay entered law school at the University of Wyoming, where he pursued his lifelong interest in the law and his appreciation for the American West. During law school, Jay clerked for a municipal court judge and directed the law school’s Civil Legal Services Clinic and, ultimately, was nominated by his peers to be the most outstanding law student of their class.

Upon graduating from law school and returning to the Palmetto State, Jay served as the Judicial Law Clerk to the Chief Administrative Circuit Court Judge of the 13th Circuit before his current position as Assistant Solicitor.

Jay comes from a long line of Greenville County public servants and military veterans with direct lineage to every American War. His maternal great-grandfather and grandfather were Greenville’s longest-serving Police Chiefs and are recognized in the South Carolina Law Enforcement Officers Hall of Fame. Jay’s mother served as South Carolina’s first female Assistant Solicitor in the 1970s under the Honorable Billy Wilkins, and Jay’s late father served as a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Air Force. For Jay, public service is expected, and he has proudly continued that duty of service since graduating from law school.

Jay has the energy, professional and educational background to make an immediate impact as Greenville County Clerk of Court. Under his leadership, Jay will modernize and reform the Clerk of Court’s Office, focusing on eliminating longstanding bureaucratic red tape, firmly enforcing court-ordered alimony and child support, overhauling Clerk's Office management, and implementing new measures to better serve the people of Greenville County.

It is time for our Clerk of Court’s Office to have conservative, bold, new leadership that has the legal training and resources befitting of the office. Greenville County does not need more politicians, we need real civil servants and Jay Gresham is your servant leader.

On November 5, 2024, vote for Jay Gresham for Clerk of Court in the General Election.

A Call For Servant Leadership

Rejecting the notion of being another politician with empty promises and no action, Jay Gresham stands out as a true servant leader in a time when Greenville County needs dedicated civil servants. Jay's strong legal training and public service make him the only sound choice for Greenville County’s next Clerk of Court. Let us all unite behind Jay Gresham, putting his legal knowledge, experience, and unwavering dedication to work for us. Together, we can elevate the Clerk of Court’s Office to new heights and ensure that our local legal system continues to uphold the American principles we hold dear.
